Frequently Asked Questions
Want to know what’s included in your web design package or what’s involved in the process. This FAQ covers the questions I have been asked most frequently. If you have a question that has not been covered here just let me know.
Do I really need a website?
Most Definitely. These days as more and more people are using the internet to find the products and services they need, a web presence is a must. It’s much quicker typing a query into a search engine than trawling through the ads in the local paper, Yellow Pages, etc. Using a web site to market and promote your business is the most effective option as your website will be working for you 24 hours a day – 7 days a week. Online advertising is also a much cheaper alternative to traditional advertising.
What is included in my Web Design Package?
The Starter Web Design Package is a website consisting of 1 to 2 pages (approximately A4 size) containing all of your images and information. The site will also contain your contact details and text links to other relevant sites if required.
The WordPress Web Design Package is a web site consisting of 5 pages (approximately A4 size), a home page plus four other linked pages of your choice, plus a blog page if required; I use a professional quality theme for your site which will be customised to look as you prefer using a unique header and your own colour scheme. Your images and information can then be distributed between the pages. The site will contain your contact details and links to other relevant sites if required.
Registration of a .co.uk domain name plus web site hosting for a 1 year period, as well as meta tags to optimise your site for the search engines, is included in the price of all packages. The static packages come with Basic hosting whilst the WordPress package comes with Standard hosting which has twice the space. Search Engine placement is NOT GUARANTEED.
I will also set up e-mail addresses on your server for you and forward them to your personal e-mail address(es), however I DO NOT set up your e-mail on your personal computer.
How will people be able to find my web site?
You will be able to display your site’s domain name on any of your business stationery or promotional material, such as flyers, posters, business cards, letterheads, etc. People will also be able to find your site using one of the search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.
How much will my web site cost?
A 2 page static site will cost £175.00.
A 5 page static site will cost £275.00.
A 5 page WordPress site with blog will cost £375.00.
All above prices include:
Registration of your chosen .co.uk domain name for 1 year. Web site hosting for 1 year. Uploading your site to your chosen domain. From to 1 to 10 E-mail addresses (depending on the type of site) firstname.lastname@example.org. Meta tags to optimise your site for the search engines. Submission to major search engines Google and Bing.
Everything you need to establish your online presence.
Please note that a deposit of one half of the total amount is required on all web design packages.
Deposits will be deducted from the total cost of your site and will show on your final invoice.
When do I have to pay?
Before I start on the design of your website I will require a deposit of One Half of the total amount. When your website is complete I will invoice you for the balance. Once your final payment has cleared your site will be uploaded to your webspace and submitted to the search engines. It’s as simple as that.
Payment can be made by BACS, cheque or Postal Order – made payable to Margaret Mairs. BACS details are printed at the bottom of your invoice.
The hosting of your website and the cost of your domain name is a yearly fee and not a one-off payment. You will be contacted by your web host around a month from your renewal date.
How long will it take to build my website?
This will depend on the number of pages and the information and photographs you require on your site but once I have all of your information a 5 page site should normally take no more than 7 days.
What information will you need?
I will need photographs (most image formats are acceptable), text typed in an e-mail, notepad or word processor and ready to be cut and pasted into your pages – I will proof read this to make sure there are no spelling mistakes or other errors. I will also need to know the number of pages you require (if you are unsure please let me know). Any further information you wish included on your page or site, like contact details.
The information and images can be e-mailed to me (which is the best option) or you can put it on a CD or DVD and send it to me (I will e-mail you my address if you prefer to use this option). If you are sending photographs by post I will scan these and return the originals to you as soon as possible.
If you do not have suitable images they are available to purchase at very reasonable prices.
NB: Please use your own images – do not download or copy them from the internet or use images scanned from a book, magazine, etc, as this is likely to infringe copyright.
Can I have any domain name?
Domain names play a part in getting your site listed higher in the search engines so choosing the right name is extremely important. Bear in mind also that some names will have already been taken so you may have to select an alternative name if the name you want has already gone. If you are unsure of the name you want please ask.
Can I use my own logo?
If you already have a logo that’s fine – e-mail or send it to me as an image file and I will put it on your site. If not I will provide a web quality logo for you or I can design a print quality logo for you at a very reasonable price. Please see prices page for more details.
Can you redesign my existing website?
Yes no problem. Contact me with the details and I will get back to you with a quote.
